Michael J. Buley
Mr. Buley was admitted to practice law in California in 1993 and has been a civil litigation trial attorney ever since. Within a month of being sworn in as a member of the California Bar, he conducted his first bench trial. In the ensuing twenty-one years of practice, he has tried over thirty-five cases in all types of forums and at all levels of the legal system. He has tried cases in California Civil Courts in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Norwalk, Santa Monica, Riverside, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, Pomona, and throughout Orange County. He has tried cases before administrative law judges and before arbitration panels. His cases have included equitable title real estate cases, specific performance real estate cases, civil fraud and conspiracy cases, business torts, general negligence, professional negligence, construction defect, unfair business practices, quiet title actions, personal injury, medical malpractice, business entity dissolutions and derivative actions, probate disputes and elder abuse cases. He has also tried cases in Federal District Courts. As primary litigation counsel for a large real estate developer, he was admitted pro hac vice to litigate several matters in Arizona.
Mr. Buley, while in law school, was selected to the Fourth District Division Three California Appellate Court’s Judicial Extern program where he worked for a semester in the chambers of the then Presiding Judge, David G. Sills, drafting appellate opinions for Justice Sills and his staff attorneys to review and revise prior to their issuance and/or publication. As a result of this experience, Mr. Buley has successfully handled multiple appellate law matters throughout his career. Therefore, he can not only try his clients’ cases but, when required, can handle any appellate practice related to the clients’ case. Mr. Buley’s appellate work has resulted in two State Court published opinions and one Federal Court, 9th Circuit, opinion. He has numerous unpublished appellate opinions which were in favor of his clients.
Mr. Buley is presently a member in good standing with the State Bar of California and has been since his admission in 1993. He is also admitted to United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States Court of Federal Claims located in Washington D.C.
Mr. Buley graduated with honors in 1992 from Western State University where he was selected as a member of the school’s Law Review. He obtained American Jurisprudence Awards in his Torts, Legal Writing, and Contracts courses. Mr. Buley’s undergraduate work commenced at the University of Texas, Austin and was completed at California State University Long Beach where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors.
